The show is set in a Philadelphia primary school, the series features Brunson playing Janine Teagues, an excited teacher determined to improve how her pupils live their lives. In season 2 Janine is back at Abbott Elementary with the rest of her colleagues: Ava Coleman (Janelle James) as the principal who is unqualified; Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph) an experienced teacher with an abundance of experience; Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter) who is a Philly native with significant connections; Jacob Hill (Chris Perfetti) an unemployed employee who was hired along with Janine as a substitute; And Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams) who is a newly appointed full-time teacher.

As in the first season Like in season 1, the Abbott teachers will need to overcome the tough issues that arise from being in a school with a low-resources. They’re bound to get into some awkward situations throughout the process (especially Janine), but it’s the love and care they show their students that’s going to keep them going through the new school year.
