Manifest – Season 4 Episode 2 “All-Call” Recap & Review
All-Call
Episode 2 of Manifest Season 4 begins with Grace’s funeral. The funeral is attended by all our characters. There are many tears, and the emptiness from Eden’s death still hovers over Ben. Saanvi arrives at Stone’s residence in a happier mood and is chatting about the black box recording. They hear Captain Daly’s call for help.
Saanvi, who sees Ben’s state and finds a bunch of clippings in his attic, tries to reach him. Despite their death date approaching in 18 months, Ben refuses to listen. Saanvi is stunned by Ben’s insolence and leaves Ben to grieve. Ben is determined to do something and decides to expose himself on Aaron Glover’s podcast. Cal isn’t convinced and tries to convince him otherwise.
Angelina takes Eden to a busy center to change while Angelina looks after Eden. It is amazing that no one has ever seen them in all of this time. Next, Angelina heads to the public library. Angelina behaves suspiciously and rushes out as soon as the librarian starts asking questions.
Michaela arrives at the Registry to answer a number of questions. Michaela fabricates a story when her former partner Drea shows up, asking about Henry Kim. Drea takes her place and shows her a file that has a post-it note attached. She asks to meet outside on a bench so they can talk about it, away from prying eyes.
Michaela appears at Jared and her bench, of all places. Jared makes an appearance and tells her that he has important intel. China is aware Henry is in the USA and has sent a task force to assist them in their search. China is working with the authorities to extradite Henry. Jared warns her to be cautious. She races to the laboratory and warns Vance, and Saanvi that Henry needs to be moved to a safer place.
Henry is driven out by Michaela, but Vance uses his intelligence and tracks the police so things don’t turn out as planned. Henry is taken hostage by the police as they close in on him. He does however have a vision with Cal back at the plane and sees a volcano outside.
Zeke goes to Ben to discuss his behavior, but Ben decides to turn the tables and let Zeke stay for his interview to see if witnesses have any clues. It is smart to give a description of Angelina. Angelina has been everywhere in public. This is certain to be picked up by someone.
Angelina manages to find accommodation, but it’s a trap. She’s already locked up. Cal and Angelina both watch the show, but Ben writes off Cal during the broadcast, claiming that Cal ran away of his own volition. Angelina is not the main focus. Glover calls Ben after the show to confirm that calls and messages continue to pour in. He even claims to have seen Angelina.
Saanvi discovers that the Black Box recording contains an unusual electromagnetic wave that is not detected by human ears. It seems that it is caused by ULF (ultra-low frequency), which would indicate an earthquake as the culprit.
Henry is located in the group’s possession. It’s the 828 Register Office. Cal does it on his own under the name Gabriel. It won’t be easy to break into. Ben also takes Zeke along to Anna. He learns that she has been lying and he knows everything about Angelina. The young woman who was manipulating her finally breaks the news to her. Eden is still with her. As Eden’s drawings are revealed to him, stunned Ben walks down to the basement and takes Eden’s clothes with him.
Cal arrives at Henry’s house to meet him. Henry calls Cal a dragon and assures him that he has all he needs. Cal has faith in him and assures him that he will soon understand. Cal leaves. Adrian arrives and rescues Angelina. He then drives with Eden out to the woods. He confronts Angelina while she is still in her car and asks why she kidnapped Eden. Angelina requests his help, and he agrees to do so – but only for one evening.
This gives Ben the motivation to return home to double his efforts to find Eden and to make amends with Cal. Cal, however, has a strange vision of the familiar dragon scar on her arm. Saanvi also checks the Black Box recording and hears more chatter from her characters. She then discusses “saving” her. It’s all Callings, and somehow they overlap one another.
Episode Review
Manifest begins to unravel the mystery while simultaneously presenting a very head-scratching predicament. How come no one flagged Angelina up before, even though she has been hiding for two years? The whole librarian subplot was presented in this episode as if there were people who had information, but that doesn’t happen. It could still be relevant in future episodes, but we’ll just have to wait and watch.
It’s surprising that Zeke didn’t realize Anna was lying so quickly that he brought him along with the rest of the gang to help them find out. That might have saved some headaches!
This cat-and-mouse game is likely to go on for quite a while. However, there is not much happening in this episode. This is not surprising considering the cable run was very similar with many episodes not doing much to advance the story. It seems that there are bigger things in the future, as Cal’s scar was revealed.
