Manifest – Season 4 Episode 6 “Relative Bearing” Recap & Review
Relative Bearing
Episode 6 of Manifest Season 4 begins with police arriving at the scene to investigate the crime scene at the factory. Ben talks to the media about Eden. The police seem suspicious that both the compound explosion and Ben’s discovery of his daughter occurred simultaneously.
Angelina shows up at her mom’s house and hides. Given the heat around them, it’s probably just as good.
Cal talks to Olive about how their Callings will not be enough to stop what’s to come. Cal is still coughing, this time blood, and seems to be hiding something. Zeke, on the other hand, is distraught after Erika’s death and seems to be raging with an uncontrollable rage. They are keeping their secrets for now.
Talking of secrets, Michaela has another Calling that leads her to Sam, a man who happens to be the owner of an aquarium. She arrives at his home to find him dead in his apartment. Michaela rushes to call Jared, who quickly recognizes him from a previous protection he attempted several years back.
Sam was at a rally when Jared stopped a police officer from harming Sam. He looked at him with disdain because Sam was one of 828 passengers. Sam also took money from his account to assist others. He ended up losing his marriage because of this selflessness. His ex-wife doesn’t seem to be a suspect in all of this, considering how she speaks about him.
The gang notices that Sam takes $2000 cash out of his bank accounts and checks in at the Registry. This could indicate that there may be an insider. Jared is still checking this out and has stopped at the Registry due to his partner ratting Jared out for being involved in the compound and fertilizer gig. Jared reluctantly gives up his badge and gun but is encouraged to go home.
Ben, who is a good man, decides to shave his entire beard. Eagan is immediately released from prison by Adrian and jumped into a public toilet. Adrian is well-aware of Eagan’s confession to the police.
Eagan ignores his threats and expresses interest in the FBI for a 20k reward. He arrives at Angelina’s house and tries to get Angelina’s mom to give him money. His plan is to extort Angelina for all he can, in return for Angelina being kept secret. You’d think that the police would first check it, right?
Ben invites Anna to his house after shaving. This is a way to bridge the gap between Eden and Ben, giving Anna something to hold on to. Angelina calls Ben to confirm that he is still alive. She also gives him tips on how to manage Eden, such as when to take her to sleep.
Ben is upset and insists that she not call her again. Cal quickly breaks the ice and allows Angelina to speak with Eden over the phone. Cal concludes that this is how Eden will accept Ben as an honest man. However, when Eden discovers this, he becomes furious. Cal sits down and tells him that he doesn’t want Angelina to be near the house. Cal also concludes that Cal is somehow connected to Angelina and he was just trying to protect his child. Cal said, “I’m your father too,” hurt. He eventually decides to leave and writes a note before slipping out of the door.
Jared and Michaela continue their search for clues to Sam’s extortion. They finally find it thanks to a familiar band. The police captain turns out to be the crook and chases Drea to the roof. A scuffle ensues as he is exposed for his role in Sam’s death.
Jared and Michaela climbed up the roof to escape being stopped by police officers. The police captain then admitted to being a dirty cop. Jared is arrested by the captain, and Vance, who offered Jared a sweet deal to forget everything and go back on the payroll, meets Jared downstairs. Vance confirms that Jared has altered the ballistic report. Jared will be able to get his job back, hoorah!
Olive believes sapphire is connected to the prophets from the past, and that they could use it for unlimited Callings. Zeke is drunk and stumbles home after he has had a Calling upstairs. Cal, however, is already asleep outside so he slips on Cal.
Jared finally speaks to his father about his concern over the murder. Jared doesn’t believe the police captain was the one responsible. If not him, then who?
Episode Review
Manifest continues to spin its soapy drama. There are many issues involving our characters, and the entire saga involving Eden reverting to where it was before. The Callings are still not explained to our group. Instead, we were led to this sapphire as a clue.
Manifest uses the same narrative beats that we saw in previous seasons. We don’t seem closer to solving the mystery of what happened to the plane or where the story is going. We’ll just have to wait to see what the next season brings.
