Manifest – Season 4 Episode 9 “Rendezvous” Recap & Review

Rendezvous

Episode 9 of Manifest Season 4 begins with Cal and Ben arriving at Dr. Bates’ office. His numbers don’t improve despite Saanvi’s immunotherapy and he has only a few days left to live. Ben believes that there is something they can do, but Dr. Bates tells him that Cal will not survive. Cal decides to keep the matter between them and focus on Zeke, Michaela, and Michaela for the moment.

Jared arrives at Michaela’s confused about whether he should take the Registry job. He realizes that he has interfered with their anniversary celebration and decides to leave. Zeke, however, allows him to stay. Jared gives a speech, too, to emphasize that the stronger man won.

Cal is the focus of everyone’s attention, but suddenly they all experience another Calling. They jump back to the plane from where they were sitting and find themselves asleep in their seats. Saanvi points out that Thomas is tugging furiously at the cargo hold.

Cal continues to decline, so the rest of the group heads to the passenger boards to try and find Thomas who is living off the grid. They have a Compass with them, which assists in their direction. He’s right there. You have to wonder what the odds are!

Ben works out from where the call light came. It’s Marko Valerie. Jared and Ben decide that they will take Marko to Cal. Olive and TJ contemplate the Omega Sapphire in their absence and decide that it might be able to help Cal.

Eagan works at the Soup Kitchen as a cover for something far more sinister. He sneaks down to the basement during a shift break and discovers strange sigils surrounding a mysterious entrance. His colleague agrees to go with him and claims that he hears the voices of God. Funny thing is, Eagan comes face-to-face with Saanvi and Michaela as he bursts through a wall.

Eagan is able to find the puzzle hidden behind the drywall and knows exactly what he’s looking for. Saanvi, Michaela and Olive face-time Olive & TJ. They show off the wall & the tarot card decks there. They’re not your ordinary cards, but Al-Zuras’ Tarot deck.

These images perfectly match the cards, which appear to be part of the big plan to get to the Omega Sapphire. They place the tiles above the appropriate tarot cards using the tiles.

Cal is now brought Marko before him and he appears to be experiencing a Calling. Marko drops a pen and pad in his lap and draws a volcano. This is the same visual motif that we have been seeing throughout the season. It’s not any volcano. It’s also the world tarot cards. Both groups arrive at the same conclusion. They set fire to the grate beneath the basement walls, which ignites the wall. The drawing of Maat (which happens to be TJ’s papyrus) is displayed on the walls. The sapphire is found inside.

Eagan grabs it and runs while the ceiling collapses and traps Leo beneath a pillar. Thomas arrives just in time for them to be freed after Eagan has left.

Unbeknownst, Eden is on a call with an unknown person and hides her phone next to a chair. This is Angelina, right? Olive and the rest learn the truth about Cal’s situation and are completely crushed. But, the Calling that we saw snippets of throughout the season finally comes to pass.

All of the passengers on board feel the rumbling and ash, except Angelina. The Death Date isn’t just for passengers; it’s also the date of the Apocalypse. All passengers are falling down. Eagan appears in the Calling with a blinding light for the sapphire he is holding. Michaela begs him to return it, but instead, he disappears completely.

Eagan returns to his motel room and collapses on the ground. An unknown figure has taken the sapphire.

The Episode Review

After a lot of running and wild goose hunting, it is now clear that Manifest has set up a big deus ex machina to save Manifest’s day with the Omega Sapphire. It is said to cure cancer and may be the key to stopping Apocalypse. We’ll just have to wait to see what all this means.

We are getting to the point in this show where we need answers. To be fair, with some of these episodes, we are starting to see this now, but some of the earlier material this season felt like busy work.

We had 5 episodes of trying desperately to find Eden. Now that she has, it’s not been a huge success. Angelina remains the antagonist, but the final episode of this series will hopefully change things up and reveal more about her role in all the events.
